The Secret to That Big Mac Flavor
What really sets a Big Mac apart is the special sauce—a creamy, tangy dressing that ties all the flavors together. A homemade version is easy to whip up with mayo, relish, mustard, vinegar, and a few seasonings. Slather it generously on each slider for that signature fast-food taste.
Tips for the Best Big Mac Sliders
- Use Hawaiian Rolls or Slider Buns – They hold everything together and have the perfect soft texture.
- Toast the Buns – A quick toast in the oven or on a skillet helps prevent sogginess and adds a little crunch.
- Layer It Right – To mimic the real Big Mac, stack the beef patties, cheese, sauce, pickles, and lettuce carefully for the best bite.

Big Mac Sliders
Ingredients
For the slider:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 8 sesame seed sliders buns or buns + sesame seeds
- 1 cup lettuce shredded
- 16 pickle slices
- 8 slices American cheese cut into 4 pieces each
For the sauce:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
- 1/4 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1/2 tablespoon onion finely minced
- 1 teaspoon ketchup
- 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
Instructions
- Add the ground beef, onion, and salt to a mixing bowl. Stir or use your hands to combine.
- Form the beef into 16 thin patties (for double sliders), or 8 patties (for single sliders)big.
- Heat the grill or frying pan to medium high heat. Add the burger patties and cook for 5 minutes on one side. Flip. Add a cheese slice to each patty. Continue cooking for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, mix together the sauce ingredients in a bowl.
- If you’re not able to find sesame seed slider buns, you can attach your own sesame seeds. Rub some milk or egg wash on the top of the buns and sprinkle on the sesame seeds.
- Heat the buns in the microwave for 15 seconds or the oven for 4 minutes.
- Open the buns, dress with the sauce, add shredded lettuce, pickles and top with 2 burger patties each.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- When mixing the ground beef, onion, and salt, avoid overworking the meat. Overmixing can make the patties tough, so gently combine the ingredients just until they're blended.
- When forming the beef patties, aim for a slightly larger size than your slider buns, but keep them very thin, especially if you're making a double slider. They will shrink a bit during cooking, so starting with a larger patty ensures they fit the buns perfectly.
- You can prepare the special sauce in advance and chill it in the refrigerator. The sauce's flavors meld together and taste even better when they've had some time to combine.
