Chocolate acorns

There’s no oven involved, just a microwave and a few minutes of assembly, which makes this the perfect project to hand off to kids or grandkids for a fall afternoon. They come together fast, look adorable piled onto a platter, and make a sweet little addition to any Thanksgiving dessert table or fall gathering. Best of all, this recipe scales up easily, so you can make a big batch for a party or just a handful for an after-school snack.

Helpful Tips

  • Melt the chocolate slowly: Stick to 30-second intervals in the microwave and stir between each one, since chocolate can go from perfectly melted to seized and grainy in just a few extra seconds.
  • Work quickly once it’s melted: The chocolate starts to firm up as it cools, so have your wafers and kisses laid out and ready to go before you start piping.
  • Give them a full 30 minutes to set: Resist the urge to stack or move the acorns before the chocolate has fully hardened, or you risk smudging that cute little stem swirl on top.
