Grilled Onion Steaks with Alabama White Sauce
Grilled Onion Steaks with Alabama White Sauce are one of those simple ideas that turn into something you’ll keep making all summer. Thick slices of sweet onion hit the grill until they’re tender and lightly charred, then get brushed with a tangy, creamy white sauce that adds just the right kick.

If you’re looking for something a little different to throw on the grill, this is a great place to start. It works as a side dish, but it also holds its own as a main for lighter meals. The contrast between the smoky onions and the bold, zippy sauce is what makes this one worth trying.
Helpful Tips
- Keep the slices thick: Cut the onions into thick rounds so they hold together on the grill and don’t slip through the grates.
- Use metal skewers for stability: Using metal skewers makes threading onion slices onto the skewers way easier.
- Sauce in layers: Brush some sauce on while grilling for flavor, then add more right before serving for a fresh, creamy finish.
