Cheesy Bacon Twists: A Savory Snack Sensation

Cheesy Bacon Twists are the ultimate savory treat. These delicious bites combine crispy bacon and cheese wrapped in flaky pastry. The combination of flavors and textures—crispy, cheesy, and smoky—makes every bite great.

I also like that these can be served standing up in a cup, so they give height to your appetizer spread. It adds a little dramatic flair. Serve them warm with your favorite dipping sauce for an extra layer of deliciousness.

Helpful Tips

  1. Use Two Cheeses: For maximum flavor, we use both cheddar and Parmesan. You could also use mozzarella or gruyere – just go for a melty and a salty cheese.
  2. Pre-cook the Bacon: To ensure that your Cheesy Bacon Twists are perfectly crispy, partially cook the bacon before wrapping it around the pastry. This will help render some of the fat and reduce cooking time, resulting in a deliciously crispy texture.
  3. Use Puff Pastry or Crescent Roll Dough: For the best results, use high-quality puff pastry or crescent roll dough. These options provide a light, flaky texture that complements the cheesy and bacon-filled center.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 6 slices bacon thin preferred, cut in half lengthwise
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a large shallow plate, mix together brown sugar, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and garlic powder. Set aside.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Brush the entire surface of both sheets with beaten egg.
  • Sprinkle the cheeses over the pastry. Gently press the cheese down so it sticks, and you can lightly roll over it with a floured rolling pin. Use a pizza cutter to slice the puff pastry into long, one-inch strips. Place half a slice of bacon on each pastry strip.
  • Take one strip, lift it by the end, and twist it three or four times to form a spiral. Roll the twisted strip in the brown sugar and spice mixture.
  • Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and the bacon is crisp. Rotate the baking sheets halfway through for even cooking.
  • Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm or at room temperature.
